AnnotationThe Help the Aged Income Index for older people has been compiled by calculating the rate of older people living on income-related benefits for every electoral ward in England and Wales. It uses benefit claimant data provided by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). This paper is a summary of "Older people count", a report on the findings of a project that investigated the distribution of older people living on income-related benefits. It gives an overview of the concentration and variation of income disadvantage. It notes particular problems inherent in the methodology, such as missing data which may distort results. (RH).
