AnnotationIn October 2000, the British Gas Help the Aged Partnership launched a campaign to combat isolation and loneliness amongst older people. Following the launch of the campaign, Help the Aged commissioned Leeds Metropolitan University to carry out research that would identify practical solutions to alleviate isolation and loneliness among older people, and to offer recommendations for future policy development. This executive summary outlines the key findings: why services are not accepted and current provision is failing, whereas befriending and volunteering are valued. Some principles of good practice are stated. (RH).
