AnnotationThe conference, organised by Help the Aged and Chaired by Anna Coote, Director of Public Health at the King's Fund, was designed to assess progress on the current campaign on legislation to combat age discrimination. Progress was reported on Help the Aged's "Scrap it!" campaign launched in 2002; and speakers described their own experiences of local campaigning and the discrimination they had experienced in employment and health care. This report also outlines workshop discussions on issues around a single equality body, employment, health, media portrayal, and retirement. Other speakers considered implementation of the European Directive on Employment in terms of age equality and the UK Government's agenda on age. (RH).
