Annotation | A part of former Humberside, Kingston upon Hull became a unitary authority in 1996. The purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well local people are being served by their social services, and to make a constructive contribution to the further improvement of services provided. The Review found that the Authority is serving most people well, yet has uncertain prospects for improvement. The city has a declining population, and older people will form an increasing proportion of the population. The Review notes that services provided for adults are of good quality and availability. Examples of good practice include: an information strategy for older people; the Poppies respite service (Pennine Offers People Practical Individual Enabling Services); a specialist Stroke Rehabilitation Unit; and a dementia care mapping (DCM) exercise every 6 months in residential units and respite services. Priorities for action include: addressing the dependence on service provision; and improving multidisciplinary assessments and community services for older people with mental health problems. (RH). |
