AnnotationThe purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well local people are being served by their social services, and to make a constructive contribution to the further improvement of services provided. The Joint Review Team concluded that some people (including users and carers) in Lewisham are well served by their social services, and that prospects for the future are promising. The report notes the considerable pressure on teams to respond to referrals for assessment. Examples of good practice identified by the review include: the Communicator Guide Service for deaf/blind people; and an intermediate care service funded jointly by the Social Care and Health Directorate and the Primary Care Trust (PCT). Priorities for action identified by the Review include: ensuring that users of services and their carers are more empowered; and continuing the process of modernising adult services. This includes tackling gaps in services for older people with mental health needs: availability of residential and respite care services, and day services. (RH).
