Annotation | Bathrooms are a common location for older people to fall. Bath grab-bars can assist in promoting safe bath transfers. This study in two Canadian regions identifies predictors of 550 community-living older people's bathroom safety device use. Of these, 478 regularly used grab-bars when getting into the bath. Significant predictors of grab-bar use were bathing difficulties, ease of grab-bar use, living in buildings with policies supporting universal access to grab-bars, having a history of falls, and reporting low psychosocial consequences of grab-bar use. The importance of promoting access as a key strategy for increasing use as part of a falls prevention strategy is emphasised. (RH). |
