Annotation | Older workers have been affected by the restructuring of Australian workplaces, often finding it difficult to obtain alternative employment. This exploratory study examined the amount of information provided in résumés that could form the basis for unlawful discrimination. The covering letters and résumés of secretarial job applicants were examined and coded under strict ethical guidelines. Substantial information upon which unlawful discrimination could be based was provided by applicants, particularly those who were older. Applicants may reduce their chances of an interview and aid and abet unlawful discrimination by including personal information in their résumés. Suggestions to minimise the problem are offered.
