Annotation | There have been great advances in medicine and technology for breast cancer treatment in the last 30 years. This report takes a retrospective look at the changes that have occurred. Breast Cancer Research undertook a survey of UK cancer experts including oncologists, breast cancer nurses, psychologists, cancer policy experts and researchers, as well as representatives from cancer charities and pharmaceutical companies. The objective was to obtain a cross-section of informed views on issues, for example on changes and challenges there might be in the next 30 years. In-depth interviews were also commissioned with 24 women across the UK with direct experience of cancer. The focus was on their experiences of the health care system and of voluntary organisations, and on their views about gaps in service provision. Among recommendations made is that work is required on the needs of older (age 75+) patients. (RH). |
