AnnotationThe term "mild cognitive impairment" (MCI) is used specifically to identify the sub-group of older people with cognitive impairment who are in the very early stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD). This article serves both as an introduction to four articles in this issue of Aging & Mental Health, which examine MCI and cognitive decline, highlighting specific areas where more research is needed. The article also draws attention to the literature that has already variously defined MCI. (RH).
