AnnotationAge discrimination in employment and vocational training will become unlawful on 1 October 2006. The proposals in this consultation document aim to strike the right balance between regulating and supporting new legislation through other measures designed to achieve culture change. This summary outlines the proposals on who will be protected, and under what circumstances treating people differently on grounds age will be possible. Proposals with regard to retirement age, recruiment, selection. promotion, pay and non-pay benefits, unfair dismissal and redundancy are outlined. The benefit of increased participation rates for older and younger workers is highlighted. (RH).
