AnnotationThis paper is a summary of the responses to the December 2001 consultation, "Towards equality and diversity". Responses revealed how common age discrimination was: 50% of respondents had either suffered from age discrimination at work, or had witnessed someone else suffering. Respondents give their views on: how age discrimination should be tackled; under what circumstances age-related practices could be justified; and whether there was a place for age-based recruitment schemes. Other issues considered include promotion, training, positive action, pay (and other benefits), redundancy, and retirement age. (RH).
