"You say you deliver person-centred care? Prove it!" | Author(s) | Caroline Baker, Paul Edwards, Tracy Packer |
Journal title | Journal of Dementia Care, vol 11, no 4, July/August 2003 |
Pages | pp 18-20 (5/5 articles) |
Keywords | Dementia ; Personality ; Psychology [care] ; Management [care] ; Quality ; Evaluation ; Standards of provision. |
Annotation | In the last of five articles on developing a benchmarking tool for person-centred care, the authors discuss ways to take the work forward through the involvement of as many practitioners as possible. The Department of Health (DH) publication "The essence of care: patient focused benchmarking for health care practitioners" (2001) does not satisfactorily cover delivering person-centred care (Standard Two of the National Service Framework for Older People). Instead, the authors have developed their own set of benchmarks, which incorporate the following six factors: assessment of need; providing support; monitoring care; reviewing care; carer involvement; and organisational strategy. These are offered by way of suggestion, to encourage other teams with their discussions, and so are not prescriptive. (RH). |
