Annotation | The National Consumer Council (NCC) has a brief to represent the interests of disadvantaged consumers, who for various reasons are excluded from adequate provision of goods and services for their basic physical and social needs. This report outlines the range of problems that low-income and disadvantaged groups of people have with access to healthcare, with specific reference to prescription, dental and optical charges. This report is informed by research undertaken by the NCC as part of its "Everyday Essentials" project that looked at everyday goods and services, including healthcare. The report outlines government policy on providing a universal health service, and makes recommendations to the Department of Health (DH) to tackle the increased inequalities imposed by health charges.
