Annotation | As family carers grow older, it is likely to have serious implications for future provision of housing and support for people with learning disabilities. The Older Family Carers Initiative (OFCI) is a 3-year project led by the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities, and designed to support the Learning Disability Partnership Boards across England to identify and meet the need of older family carers of people with learning disabilities. The survey results of a questionnaire for OFCI aimed to find out how far the Partnership Boards in England are meeting, or planning to meet, the aims and objectives of the government White Paper, 'Valuing people' that affect older people. This report presents the findings on the importance of identifying older families; planning a future for people with learning disabilities; identifying housing needs; use of funding opportunities; providing quality services to older family carers; and strengths, challenges and priority areas for future development.
