AnnotationSalford is one of ten metropolitan boroughs in Greater Manchester. The purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well local people are being served by their social services, and to make a constructive contribution towards further improvement of the services provided. It concludes that most people in Salford are well served, key strengths being the policy of inclusion of users and carers, and sound professional practice. Compared with similar urban authorities, Salford has a substantial proportion of people of pensionable age living alone (38%). The Authority supports a large number of older people with complex problems at home; there is a good range of services for older people. As well as users' and carers' routine involvement, other examples of good practice are use of residential care reviews to develop more sophisticated contract management of residential homes; and delivering a co-ordinated assessment and equipment service for people with disabilities. The Review identifies priorities for action including: improving services to users in areas such as respite care and assessment for equipment; and introducing standards for the whole service. (RH).
