AnnotationCAREdirect is a new service being developed by the Department of Health (DH) in partnership with some local councils, for people aged 60+, their carers and relatives. Its aim is to make it easier for older people to get information and help when they need it. CAREdirect is being piloted from the end of 2001 forwards, starting with 6 areas in south-west England. This newsletter introduces the evaluation of the pilot, and the development of the scheme generally. It is to be published twice yearly during the evaluation phase by the Personal Social Services Research Unit (PSSRU) at the University of Kent. (KJ/RH).
