Annotation | The Japanese language version of Advocacy was launched in November 2002 and is published in Japan every other month. This 2003 English issue provides an overview of conditions in Japan in 2002. The author of the present article suggests that as old family patterns break apart, then Japanese fixed ideas about "family" and "women" will benefit men, too. She outlines how changes in Japan's pension system, while appearing initially to favour women, has put them at risk, as the family in general expects women to take up caring responsibilities. (RH). |
