Annotation | The Japanese language version of Advocacy was launched in November 2002 and is published in Japan every other month. This 2003 English issue provides an overview of conditions in Japan in 2002. The author of this article advocates that prosperity can be achieved in a steady society, in place of the economic growth which has obtained since World War II. He also proposes "lifelong work sharing": while he notes that people of working age can become too focused on work and might want to take sabbaticals, some older people are forced to retire before retirement age. The "steady society" is therefore offered as a model whereby individuals can more freely arrange their own lives. (RH). |
