AnnotationThe Camden Bangladeshi Residents Survey was undertaken in July/August 1995 using a random sample selected for interview, from the electoral register. Its aims were to: obtain key characteristics of Bangladeshi households; identify levels of need, use and satisfaction with the Council's services; and explore issues around gender, generation, identity and racism. Some of the key findings of the households were: all respondents were Muslim; 94% of respondents were born in Bangladesh and 6% in the UK; 97% of the sample originated from Sylhet; 31% of all males and 53% of males over 45 were unemployed; respondents always thought of themselves as either Bangladeshi (95%), Sylheti (86%), or Muslim (82%). This report is the first in a series which focuses on the Bangladeshi population group, which is the largest non-white ethnic group in Camden. It was undertaken to enhance the findings of the 1991 Census. (KJ/RH).
