AnnotationThis annual report summarises the work carried out by the Health Service Ombudsman (Commissioner) for the financial year April 2002 to March 2003: summaries of completed investigations into complaints against the NHS are to be found in separate reports published quarterly. During 2002-03 the Ombudsman received 3,994 complaints against NHS bodies, individual practitioners and other providers of NHS services in England. This is a significant increase on the previous year and followed the publication of a special report, NHS Funding for Long Term Care (HC 399), by the Ombudsman's Office, which encouraged the 1,300 complaints about continuing care in the NHS.
