AnnotationFollowing media reports about the poor care of some older people in hospital, Help the Aged's response has been to set up the "Dignity on the Ward" campaign to improve their quality of life. The main objectives are to: ensure that the Government acts to improve the care of older people in hospital; to see that managers run their hospitals to the kind of standards older people expect; to promote good practice in the care of older people on the ward by NHS staff; and to enable older people to improve their situation if they run into problems in hospital. This information pack is intended as advice for anyone who wants to improve the care of older people in hospital. The manual gives background information on how hospitals and the NHS are organised and specific ideas on how to influence your local hospital. The second part outlines the current problems with the care of older people within NHS hospital trusts. (KJ).
