Crucial impact of the world surrounding care | Author(s) | Caroline Baker, Paul Edwards, Tracy Packer |
Journal title | Journal of Dementia Care, vol 11, no 3, May/June 2003 |
Pages | pp 16-18 (4/5 articles) |
Keywords | Dementia ; Psychology [care] ; Management [care] ; Quality ; Evaluation ; Standards of provision. |
Annotation | In this fourth of five articles on developing a benchmarking tool for person-centred dementia care, the authors discuss the last two factors in their proposed additional element to "The essence of care" (Department of Health, 2001). The first is carer involvement. Carers need information and advice about the health or condition of the person for whom they are caring. Good information enables carers to become partners in the provision of care, and to support them in best helping for the person being caring for. The second, organisational strategy, is designed to evaluate the extent to which person-centred care forms an integral part of the work of the staff within an organisation. (RH). |
