Annotation | Reliability should be considered when selecting a scoring system, since it influences a test's validity. The reliability of the clock drawing test (CDT) has rarely been assessed in population-based studies or in developing countries. The present study assesses intra- and inter-rater reliabilities of the CDT scored by the Shulmar (2000) method with a random sample of 200 Brazilian older people with low levels of formal education. The study finds that the CDT scored by this method appears to have good to excellent reliability with such a population. However, difficulties in distinguishing between scores of 4 and 5 and a low proportion of score 1 tests suggest these scores may not be totally adequate for this population. The authors suggest that further studies are necessary to determine the consistency of their results with similar populations. (RH). |
