Death in a home | Author(s) | Jef Smith |
Journal title | Croner Care Home Briefing, no 208, May 2003 |
Pages | pp 1-4 |
Keywords | Death ; Nursing homes ; Care homes. |
Annotation | The author cites an example of two friends in a large nursing home, and how when one of them died, this was dealt with rather insensitively by the care home staff. This was not intentionally done but just through lack of following good practice. Unfortunately, the author cites that this can all too often be the case and then gives guidance as to good practice in handling a death in a care home. Standard 11 of the National Minimum Standards emphasises "that at the time of their death, staff will treat them and their family with care, sensitivity and respect" and the author concludes that this needs to be taken on board more often by care staff.
