Annotation | These explanatory notes relate to the Pensions Bill as introduced in the House of Commons on 11 February 2004. They have been prepared by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), in order to assist the reader and to help inform debate on the Bill. They explain the Bill's main parts, the first two establishing two new non-departmental public bodies (NDPB): the Pensions Regulator (to replace Opra); and the Pension Protection Fund (PPF), to provide compensation for members of defined benefit (normally final salary) and hybrid occupational pensions schemes in the event of the scheme's sponsoring employer going insolvent. The other five parts of the Bill cover: scheme funding; planning for retirement; personal and occupational schemes - miscellaneous provisions; state pensions; and miscellaneous and supplementary matters. The notes do not form part of the Bill, but need to be read in conjunction with the Bill. (RH). |
