AnnotationWhere and how to live is one of the most important things that people have to think about as they grow older. But what choices are available, and do they match up with what older people actually want? This booklet outlines the main themes of "Our homes, our lives: choice in later life living arrangements", published by the Centre for Policy on Ageing (CPA) and the Housing Corporation in 2002. The book takes a fresh look at housing and support services for older people, confronting assumptions and "givens" about their expectations and needs. It draws together the experience and ideas of a broad range of specialists in this field, following a series of seminars, which included older people. "Do we have a choice?" aims to spark further debate on the subject among the many agencies concerned with policy-making or providing housing and support, particularly with older people. It focuses not only on choice, but also on the importance of older people's independence, and their influence and involvement in policy and housing design. (RH).
