Annotation | HASS is now joined by LASS, the Leisure Accident Surveillance System and these two databases are linked. They hold details of home and leisure accidents that caused a serious enough injury to warrant a visit to hospital to anywhere within the UK. They do not include road traffic or work accidents. The aim of HASS/LASS is to gain an understanding of how and why home and leisure accidents occur to enable preventative measures to be found and adopted. Analysis covers type of home accident, age groups most at risk, products involved, place of accident and types of injuries sustained. A summary of some annual reports are available. The Department of Trade and Industry has announced that these statistics will cease to be collected from 2003. Data for 2000 to 2002 are expected to be released in 2003. (KJ). |
