AnnotationThis project brought together partners from the UK, Spain, Sweden and Ireland to study issues regarding people with Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related disorders in institutional care, specifically with regard to the relationship between residents' relatives and an institution's management and staff. A literature review was undertaken, together with fieldwork involving relatives, staff and authorities in the field in each country. The views obtained were integrated through a consensus exercise in each country, and a comparative report prepared. Based on this work, training materials, consisting of written materials and a 25 minute video, were developed for joint use with staff and families, to encourage the development of constructive relationships, to the benefit of staff, families and residents.
