Annotation | Service learning is a form of experiential education in which students engage in activities that focus on human and community needs, together with structured opportunities intentionally designed to promote student learning and development. This article presents a model for introducing service learning to an academic gerontology course curriculum. The model builds upon the emerging importance of service learning in higher education, and more specifically in the field of gerontology. The "Coordinated Curriculum Model" makes use of a service learning coordinator, who administers and integrates service learning for several gerontology courses in a programme's curriculum, as opposed to each faculty member administering service learning their respective courses.
