AnnotationIn a prospective correlational study based, the aim was to identify patterns and predictors of patient adherence to the recommendations of a Canadian geriatric day hospital programme. 3-month follow-up interviews conducted with 116 patients and their caregivers found a mean patient adherence rate of 67.4% which varied across five categories of recommendations. Using multiple regression analysis, four variables emerged as predictors of adherence. While patient relocation to a more supervised living situation and a greater number of visits to a primary care physician (PCP, i.e. general practitioner) after discharge were predictive of higher adherence, lack of in-home support and greater number of recommendations to the GP predicted lower adherence.
