Annotation | A focus group design was used to explore the perceptions and understandings of the experiences and realities facing gay and lesbian older people and their families in Canada, with regard to access to a broad range of health and social services in the community. Also examined in this study in 2000 was the role of health care and social service organisations in shaping access and service delivery. Subjects made specific reference to the impact of discrimination on their health and access to services. Issues relating to invisibility, historic and current barriers to care, and the nature of service options are identified. Recommendations for change include those related to best practice programmes and policies in the long-term care sector. (RH). |
