AnnotationSome studies have found interventions for behavioural problems of people with dementia in the community to be effective. Those studies that are available generally relate to English-speaking people in the US, which limits their generalisability to other cultures and countries. The authors' randomly controlled study with a Taiwanese sample showed that a 2-session in-home caregiver training programme emphasising lower environmental stresses and partnership between health care professionals and family caregivers is helpful for decreasing problem behaviours of older people with dementia. The programme also improves the caregiver's self-efficacy for managing problematic behaviours. Similar programmes may be applicable to other countries with Chinese populations. The results of this study may also provide a reference for health care professionals in the US and Canada who deal with Chinese or Taiwanese immigrants. (RH).
