Annotation | In 2000, Age Concern England (ACE) and the Family Budget Unit (FBU) published "Low cost but acceptable", which estimated the incomes required by older people to avoid living in poverty. A new study by the two organisations, "Modest but adequate: a reasonable living standard for people aged 65-74", takes the debate further, by estimating the incomes required to reach the Modest but Adequate (MBA) or reasonable standard of living, allowing for a healthy lifestyle and the opportunity to play a full part in society. This policy paper outlines the findings of "Modest but adequate" and ACE's recommendations regarding the use of budget standards, and building up an adequate income for retirement. (RH). |
