AnnotationThis guide explains how the work of SSI is developing to support the modernisation agendas for social care, local government and health. It covers: the assessment process, including performance assessment arrangements; how SSI promotes improvement, including spreading good practice and tackling poor performance; SSI's contribution to policy development; and how SSI ensures its own performance. It also provides regional contact information, inspection group boundaries and social care regional boundaries. However, the role of the SSI will change once the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) is established. The CSCI will provide an independent view of the quality and performance of the whole social care sector for ministers and the public. (KJ/RH).
