AnnotationThis was not an inspection of the information technology that councils used, nor of their other information systems. Rather, the inspection concerned what councils and their staff knew about children's and older people's services, and whether high quality information was available to inform political strategic, operational and case decision-making, as well as to inform users and carers. Eight councils were inspected: Birmingham, Cheshire, Gloucestershire, Leicester City, Newcastle, North Lincolnshire, Redbridge, and Warrington. The report presents findings and examples of good practice on the following themes: improving services; clear direction for services; managing the people side of the information; creating and managing information; use of information by managers, staff and councillors; informing users, carers and the wider community; and information and resources.
