AnnotationThe personality trait of extraversion defines style of interest as it relates to the amount of social stimulation preferred in leisure activity. In general, extraverts enjoy interacting with other people, while introverts prefer more solitary activities. This pilot study of 24 Americans aged 55+ with dementia was conducted to identify the types of leisure activity, the length of time they engaged in those activities by personality trait of extraversion, and the effect of activities on sleep. Those identified as being extravert tended to engage in activities for longer periods of time than introverts. Those described as introverted engaged in more one-on-one activities than group activities, but for shorter periods of time than extraverts. (RH).
