AnnotationThe uniqueness of geropsychology practice in long-term care is demonstrated in this special issue of Clinical Gerontologist. Authors point to the multifaceted ways in which direct clinical services must be modified from traditional outpatient services. Articles highlight the impact of different settings in which older people receive mental health care, not only in nursing homes and other residential environments, but also in the community. Articles in Section 1 - Modifications of traditional psychotherapy techniques - consider group therapy, R-E-M psychotherapy (Restore, Empower, Mobilize), use of positive core memories in LTC, and management of disruptive behaviour. Section 2 - Multidisciplinary and systemic issues - includes coverage of family work and pleasant events-based behavioural intervention for depression. This issue of Clinical Gerontologist, together with vol 25, nos 3/4 in 2002, has also been published by the Haworth Press as a monographic "separate" (same title). (RH).
