Annotation | This is the first British study to concentrate on older homeless people and resettlement, and the first to follow up resettled homeless people of any age. It examines the progress of 64 older homeless people (age 50+) in London, Leeds and Sheffield for two years after they had been rehoused. The field work commenced in July 1997 and continued until August 2001 when the last subject had been rehoused for 24 months. Subjects were clients of St Mungo's in London, St Anne's Shelter and Housing Action in Leeds and Sheffield, and St Martin-in-the-Fields Social Care Unit in London. The report is in three main sections. The first describes subjects' backgrounds and the resettlement preparation they had received. The second concentrates on subjects' experiences after they were rehoused, and the help and support they received. The final section examines resettlement outcomes over the first 24 months, and presents initial findings about the factors that had an influence on housing outcomes. The report concludes with recommendations for resettlement workers, tenancy support staff, and housing providers on the practice of resettling older homeless people. (RH). |
