Annotation | Following an audit of nursing homes inspection reports in Somerset, which revealed inadequate record keeping, a project was set up to devise a care planning and documentation system for use in nursing homes. A pilot study of SHARP (Somerset Health Authority Records and Plans) in seven homes showed that the system was user-friendly, resulted in fuller records being kept, and that care assistants felt more involved in the care of their patients. The article explains that an educational visit to Florida by the author gave her a comparative perspective of record keeping and care planning on which to devise the SHARP system. (RH). |
