Psychiatry services for ethnic elders | Author(s) | Ajit Shah |
Journal title | Geriatric Medicine, vol 33, no 3, March 2003 |
Pages | pp 13-16 |
Keywords | Ethnic groups ; Psychiatric treatment ; General practice ; Usage [services]. |
Annotation | It is apparent that the prevalence of dementia among ethnic elders of Indian subcontinent origin, "black" groups and the Chinese is essentially similar to that of the UK's indigenous population of older people. However, ethnic elders are poorly represented in many psychiatric services for geriatrics. The author considers why this discrepancy may have arisen, and what measures should be taken within both primary and secondary care to resolve it. (RH). |
