Annotation | The purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well local people are being served by their social services, and to make a constructive contribution towards the further improvement of the service provided. It found that most people are well served by Ealing's social services. Meetings with service users, carers and their advocates confirmed that they generally valued staff responses and the services they received. There are relatively high levels of both residential and home care provision, and comparatively large numbers of people supported to live at home. Examples of good practice include: intermediate care services teams providing home support and rehabilitation packages; consulting and involving older people on their residential services; and attracting new staff through the Social Care Access Programme. Priorities for action include: an urgent need to develop sound strategic and financial resource management across adult services; robust commissioning, contract management and use of Best Value (BV); further development of culturally sensitive services; and sustained and joint workforce planning to address future needs and shortages.
