AnnotationResearchers worked with 142 older residents (aged 50+) at a range of venues including shopping centres, day centres for older people, and residential homes in the West Sussex coastal strip from Littlehampton to Adur District. It is intended that this study's findings will inform learning providers of the needs of older people who may be at risk of exclusion or social isolation. Only a third of the sample currently participated in learning, while fewer than one in ten had no interest at all in learning. Recommendations are made about the subject content of learning, access to learning opportunities in terms of premises and transport, publicity about courses, and enrolment costs. A further recommendation from the NIACE report, "Learning to grow older and bolder" would be to "promote positive images of older people, through publicity and in employment practices". (RH).
