Annotation | This article is a shortened version of a Coalition for Quality in Care briefing paper written by NAIRO member Simon Spoerer. The CQC is a coalition of pressure groups, providers, associations and individuals who are committed to maintaining and developing the National Minimum Standards to assure and guarantee minimum standards of quality care. The article is a critique of recent developments by the Government reneging on its key environmental standards for care homes; and of concerns that despite Government initiatives for older people's welfare, "a new sector of unregulated personal care provision is opening up in England." Ageism and social exclusion appear to be the Government's current focus at the expense of protection and safety, as displayed in an Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) report, "Preparing older people's strategies: linking housing to health, social care and other local strategies" (2003). Regulated protection for vulnerable people therefore continues to be compromised. (KJ/RH). |
