Commentary: a "good death" is possible in the NHS | Author(s) | Julia Neuberger |
Journal title | British Medical Journal, vol 326, no 7379, 4 January 2003 |
Pages | p 34 |
Keywords | Dying ; Terminal care ; Management [care] ; Medical workers. |
Annotation | Although hospices are "fashionable", caring for a dying person is still discussed relatively little in the UK. The author supports John Ellershaw and Chris Ward, and their plea for the best care to be available for everyone - not just for cancer patients or those in the care of a specialist palliative care team. She recalls the experiences of her parents' deaths, both at home, and the quality of care which they received. It should also be possible to provide a "good death" for other people. (RH). |
