Annotation | Oldham is a metropolitan borough in Greater Manchester. The purpose of the Joint Review is to provide an objective assessment of how well local people are being served by their social services, and to make a constructive contribution towards the further improvement of the service provided. The Joint Review Team judges that some people are served well in Oldham, but prospects for improvement are uncertain. Services for older people need to be better co-ordinated with those provided by the Primary Care Trust (PCT), such as the range of good residentially-based rehabilitation services across Health and Social Services; as yet, there is no community based rehabilitation for older people. Although services to the Asian community are patchy, the service provided by Aap Ka Haq to people with learning disability is cited as a good model which enables Asian people to have access to mainstream services. The user and carer survey indicated that most users were pleased with the services that they received; however, acquiring information about services was an area of concern. The review includes the following priorities for action: plug gaps and make improvements to services; tackle race inequality; and develop a commissioning strategy. (RH). |
