AnnotationAn editorial article asks how evidence-based practice in psychosocial intervention in early dementia can be achieved. The first main paper examines whether, in early dementia, measures of psychosocial disability used with those of cognition are more useful than measures of cognition alone. Next comes a single case study on cognitive rehabilitation as a component of early intervention in Alzheimer's disease (AD). This is followed by an examination of the use of an electronic memory aid (EMA) for patients with mild-to-moderate possible Alzheimer's disease, in a pilot study involving 5 outpatients aged 59 to 79. In the last but one article, the potential usefulness and constraints are evaluated of a computer decision support system (CDSS) to assist practitioners in diagnosing and managing dementia. Finally, the perennial problem of those factors influencing what information is passed on and to whom is discussed, with reference to a study carried out at the outpatient memory clinic at Nijmegen University in the Netherlands.
