Annotation | Population estimates suggest that there are some 10 million pensioners living in the UK. The DSS's Family Resources Survey (FRS) has identified some one million pensioners who are entitled to Income Support (IS), but who have not taken up their entitlement by making a claim. This paper provides early findings from qualitative research, based on in-depth interviews with 37 pensioners to explore their attitudes to claiming benefits, and to determine why some pensioners do not claim or receive benefits to which they are entitled. This is an initial overview of the key barriers and triggers to the take-up of IS. (RH). |
