Annotation | The War Pensioners' Welfare Service (WPWS) acts as the welfare arm of the War Pensions Agency (WPA). As such, there is a lack of awareness among many war pensioners and war widows of the range of services provided by the WPWS. This report presents the results of research into the role of the WPWS. The research set out to determine the needs of war pensioners, and to assess how well the WPWS meets these needs. It also considered what other sources and types of welfare support are used by war pensioners. This report describes the three phases of the research project: development, a postal survey, and in-depth interviews with 24 respondents to the postal survey. Whilst the WPWS was successfully providing a quality service which met the needs of most of those with whom it had contact, most of the respondents were either unaware or did not have a clear idea of the range of services provided.
