AnnotationThere are some 30,000 people aged 60+ living in the London Borough of Camden. While overall these numbers are likely to decrease in absolute terms, the percentages of those aged 75% and from the minority ethnic groups are likely to increase. In July 2002, Camden launched a Quality of Life Strategy for Older People, which attempts to "change stereotyped and limiting attitudes towards ageing and improve older people's lives". In this article, Camden's head of promoting independence outlines how the strategy was driven by the views of older people following the death alone of a Mrs Hutchens. The strategy's key aims are to co-ordinate and build on current provision of services to older people, which aim to improve their quality of life. The article examines the vision behind the strategy, the importance of partnership, and how the strategy is being implemented and evaluated. (RH).
