AnnotationThe Poppele Center was an endowed programme funded by a generous grant from the estate of Miss Oubri A Poppele, in 1979. The money was originally given to the United Methodist General Board of Global Missions for the purpose of establishing a centre for training ministers for more effective health and welfare ministries, especially with older people. Saint Paul School of Theology, US was chosen as the location for the centre and David B Oliver, a gerontologist was the first director. In 1984, the Center printed the first issue of the "Quarterly Papers on Religion and Aging" and continued until 1994 when the School closed the Center. A wide range of scholars and students contributed articles for publication in the Quarterly Papers; those selected for this anthology are representative but have not been previously published. This publication has been co-published simultaneously as Journal of Religious Gerontology, vol 12, no 2, 2000. (RH).
